vivaromania.com - is an open content project to create a free and comprehensive Romania travel guide. The goal of vivaromania.com is to provide valuable and detailed information about any destination in Romania - cities, villages, regions and resorts in Romania: how to go there, where to eat, what to see, what has changed, what to do, details about museums, landscapes, bars and restaurants, practical information, accommodation, tours and travel services and much more.

The site was developed with the intention to encourage travel agents, hospitality guys and other people involved in travel services to promote their services and to provide content in this portal.

Project Outline

Vivaromania addressed Quintagroup with the following tasks: to improve vivaromania.com site visibility for search engines, so that more searchers could find and visit the site.

Initially some mistakes were made while organizing the site, as a result a lot of pages had supplemental index in Google, what is worse a lot of pages were not indexed in a proper way. Thus, vivaromania.com was interested in SEO analysis, and other important factors for Google, such as duplicate content issues.

What Quintagroup has managed to conduct is:

• Plone Google Sitemaps customization for search engine visibility improvement (sitemap generation, fixing duplicated pages in sitemap)

• Duplicated content issues fixing, which were the main reason for low site visibility
• Generation of robots.txt file
• Consulting

As there were a lot of relative links in navigation, in breadcrumbs and in portlets, Google could not index vivaromania pages correctly. Too many different URLs with the same content appeared as a result of this relative linking.

Quintagroup analyzed the situation with duplicate content issues, and figured out that Google indexed much bigger amount of pages than the number of pages that really exist. The search results of the request in Google site:vivaromania.com showed that amount of pages (seen by Google) exceeds the real number of existing pages to a great extend (twice as many).Thus, we excluded a lot of duplicate content under different URLs from search results with the help of webpage removal request tool. 

As a result of the job conducted, vivaromania page rank increases from 0 to 6. Now the problem with duplicate content disappeared. Google can successfully index the number of pages available on site.
