Note: Even though this site is built on top of Plone CMS, most site pages go with the extension .asp (e.g. http://www.offshorecompany.com/company/index.asp). This can be explained by the attempt to keep site value with Search Engines. Since old site pages had .asp extension, they were not changed during migration into Plone; and remained the same on the new site version due to SEO purposes.

Project Outline

Quintagroup designed and developed a bilingual content managed website featuring new design in coordination with branding drive. Several products were used to make this site very usable and manageable.

  1. Navigation titles on site are generated with the help of qSiloGroup product. It enables creating navigation titles different from documents titles, that is especially important because of two reasons: navigation titles should be short and clear so that a visitor could easily navigate on site, find necessary information, while page titles are usually long and informative. qSiloGroup allows to choose which items (which a folder contains) to be displayed in the navigation. In SiloNavigation table select elements to be displayed in the navigation, in the right column navigation titles are written, they can be different from page titles.
  2. This site breadcrumbs functionality is a little bit changed from default Plone's. qSilobreadcrumbs product was used here, which the help of which breadcrumb titles can be customized. qSilobearcrumbs uses Navigation titles as a basis for breadcrumbs titles.
  3. Metatags were edited with help of qSEOptimizer product. As page title tag, meta description tag, meta keywords tag can all together contribute to improving site visibility in search engine result pages, it was important to customize them. Thus, in Seo properties window the tags were changed. 
  4. HTML code was cleared from blank lines, gabs, unnecessary tags etc. A special product was used to decrease HTML file size and make it more friendly for search engines. 
  5. Plone bilingual service was achieved through LinguaPlone product. With LinguaPlone, it was easy to create and manage  translations of the content and navigate with different language versions of the same content. When we copied pages and folders, connection between documents in different languages was not lost. As a result a user can easily shift between languages through a drop-down menu.  Initially this site was created in English, but then our task was to make it bilingual: English-Russian.
  • English version was in the root of the site - http://www.offshorecompany.com/
  • Then we created a folder ru - a Russian version of  the site - http://www.offshorecompany.com/ru. 
  • We translated all the content one by one into that folder: the button translate into appeared on the toolbar, clicking on it we chose 'русский'.
  • The content translated into Russian was all inserted into ru folder. So, every page in English, for example, http://www.offshorecompany.com/folder/page.html has its translated into Russian equivalent in ru folder http://www.offshorecompany.com/ru/folder/page.html
  • Thus, all the pages, Navigation menu, breadcrumbs, tabs and portlets were translated. A special drop-down menu appeared on every translated page in both English version and the Russian one to shift between languages.
