provides.
BMCtv -
focuses on corporate videos. BMCtv brings the world
of
IT.
This is a place where a visitor can view interact videos from BMC
Software, Partners and customers.
Videos are specifically segmented for IT Professionals, CIOs, CMDB and
ITIL,
Business Service Management, Partner Success, Customer Success, BMC
Userworld, Education and
Speeches and Events.
Project Outline
BMCtv website development process included lots of new custom content types development:- BMCtv
Video. Physically video files
are not stored in the BMCtv FileSystem, they are hosted on blip.tv.
To display those videos on BMCtv website, BMCtv Video content type was developed, which has the following fields:
- Video Title, Description, Body Text
- Video Categories - these are keywords, that every video has. According to these keywords a video becomes available under certain channel(s).
- Video Source - a place for <object> HTML code to be inserted. The code was taken from blip.tv, and is automatically transformed to have all tags changed appropriately for BMCtv.
- Thumbnail - an image to represent the video in portlets, video listings etc.
- Video URL - a link to external source (blip.tv), video was taken from.
- BMCtv Category
(Video Channel). Videos on BMCtv website can be available under
different channels. One video can be available under e.g. 4 channels,
while
another one - under one only. Video Channel contents is formed the
following way:
- There is 'Select
a category for video List' field in BMCtv Category edit form,
in which one or
several keywords are indicated. In case any video has the same
keyword(s) as a Channel does, it will be
available in this Channel.
For example: a channel 'For IT Professionals' has 'Channel:For IT Professionals' keyword. 'Siemens IT video' has 'Channel:For IT Professionals' keyword as well. Thus, Siemens IT is available in 'For IT Professionals' Channel. - It is possible to apply videos for a channel by selecting them manually: add videos into Handpicked.
- There is 'Select
a category for video List' field in BMCtv Category edit form,
in which one or
several keywords are indicated. In case any video has the same
keyword(s) as a Channel does, it will be
available in this Channel.
- BMCtv Viewlet. There are 2 viewlets on the BMCtv website front page: Feature videos and Topical videos. They are collections of certain videos from the site. BMCtv Viewlet displays those videos that were handpicked or those that were gathered from the whole site according to the keywords, selected in its Categorization tab.
- BMCtv Navigation - This content type was developed to create site front page, which consists of 3 blocks of information: flash and 2 video collections: Featured and Topical videos. Based on CompositePack product, BMCtv Navigation page has a special tab design in the task bar. Each front page section can be edited separately, each possessing a special green edit item drop-down menu, which enables one section edit.
- Editor Tool Box - this is a box, that appears in the navigation after the editor is logged in. The box can include quick links to the corresponding site sections the editor works with. Apart from quick links provided under Editor Toolbox, there is one more quick link - Upload Video - in the personal bar in the top right corner, that allows quick video addon to the site.
